CALDWELL, Idaho --- Saturday night’s Caldwell Night Rodeo will truly fit their slogan of “Where the Cowboys are the Stars.”

The bareback riding will feature reigning world champion Justin McDaniel, from Porum, Okla., the current world standings leader Clint Cannon from Waller, Texas, and two-time world champion Bobby Mote from Culver, Ore. Of the 12 contestants in the field, eight are ranked in the top 20 in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings and there is only a six point spread, so any one of them has the potential to earn the championship here.

In team roping, 2007 world champion header Chad Masters and his partner Jade Corkill enter in fifth place. Masters, from Clarksville, Tenn., and Corkill from Fallon, Nev., lead the world standings in heading and heeling respectively. Former world champion Steve Purcella, from Hereford, Texas, and his partner Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier Jhett Johnson from Casper, Wyo., are in second. The Adams brothers from Logandale, Nev., Jay and Austin, lead the field.

Six-time all-around champion Trevor Brazile is atop the leader board in tie-down roping here. Brazile, from Decatur, Texas, leads the world standings in that category and the all-around standings again. Brazile is closing in on the $200,000 regular season earnings mark and will certainly use any money he earns here to increase his checkbook and lead in the standings.

In fact, the world standings leaders in all of the events with the exception of steer wrestling have qualified for the finals here. In saddle bronc riding, Jesse Kruse had an 85 point effort aboard Burch Rodeo’s Sand to Stone on Friday night to move into third place.

There were only six bull riders that made it to the eight-second whistle and at the top of the leaderboard are Kanin Asay from Powell, Wyo., and J.W. Harris from May, Texas, who each had 90-point scores. Harris is the reigning world champion and leads the world standings. Asay is in sixth.

Top stock from Powder River Rodeo, the Calgary Stampede, Burch Rodeo and D and H Cattle Company will be featured. Fans can expect to see the two-time world champion saddle bronc horse Wyoming’s Miss Congeniality. The leader coming in, Dusty Hausauer, from Dickinson, N.D., is the lucky man to attempt to ride her. Calgary Stampede’s world champion bareback horse, Grated Coconut, will also be here. Zac Compton from Hermiston, Ore., will attempt to ride him.

“The best set of horses in the world will be here tomorrow night,” said Royce Ford who moved into a tie for first place in the long round on Friday night. He rode Powder River Rodeo’s Touch of Silver for 87 points to tie with Bobby Mote. “I just gotta come out and try to do the best I can. Hopefully it’ll work.”

The final performance of the Caldwell Night Rodeo will begin on Saturday at 8 p.m.
