The Extreme
Bullriding Tour brought the riders of the National Federation of
Professional Bullriders (NFPB) and the Bullriders of America (BOA) to
Vermillion, South Dakota on Saturday August 23rd. Vermillion is rich
in rodeo history at one time hosting up to 5 rodeos a year and even
hosting the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Finals. This weekend they
celebrated their 15th Annual Coyote Country Rodeo Club Bull-a-Rama with
a three day celebration that started with a special Unloading of the Bulls
of Double S Bull Company, Sidney, IA and a Hog Roast. Saturday there
was a special "Bull Stops Here!" at the Hy-Vee store with two of
the top bulls of Double S Bull Company on display. The bullfighters,
barrelman and several of the contestants were on hand to meet and greet
the public and sign autographs. There were horse rides, fee gifts
and raffles as well.
Saturday
night was highlighted by the Extreme Bullriding Tour. Only two men
covered their bulls with Brad Check taking home first place with an
82-point ride for $1677.30. Andy Smith took a big second place with
his 76-point ride and $1078.20 which moved him within $67 of first place
in the standings for year-end champion and winning an M & M Custom Camper.
On the bull side of the equation, 07 Blue Duck was named bull of the
event.
There
were three special features at the bull riding on Saturday night.
First there was a Mutton busting with contestants selected by luck of the
draw only 15 contestants were selected to compete. There was also a
"Business Man's Bull Riding" with 5 local contestants
which was lots of fun for the whole community. The third extra
attraction was a Junior Bullriding which was won by John Young. John
was the only junior rider to cover his bull which he did for 79 points and
a nice check for $600.
Following
Bull-A-Rama XV there were fireworks and a dance.
On
Sunday at 11 AM there was a Trail Ride along the Missouri River
which was followed by a lunch and free will donation. A nice
peaceful way to end a weekend of thrills and spills!
