The first stop on the 2010 Extreme Bullriding Tour gave an awesome look of
things to come in the new year. The crowd was treated to many of the
top riders in the Midwest competing on the bulls of the Attack Pack of
Double S Bull Company. The riders were from the Bullriders of America
(BOA) and the National Federation of Professional Bullriders (NFPB)
including several reigning and previous champions. The riders were
matched against not only some well-known bulls but some new additions to the
Attack Pack. The riders were not surprised with what they already knew
- Shad Smith knows bucking bulls and his bulls buck! Just one reason
why the tour continues to draw top riders year after year. Three men split
the top position and the money for first, second and third. Travis
Marshall, Matt Birkenholtz, and Andy Smith all rode for 85 points and took
home $845.88 for their efforts. With the 2009 Year-End Champion just
crowned two days before the race is officially started for the 2010
championship with a three-way tie for first in the standings, all
indications for exciting race to come. At each event a bull is selected
as the Bull of the Event. 07 Blue Duck earned the honor at Lincoln
with his match-up with Travis VanLair that ended in a no score for Travis
despite a valiant effort. In the Junior Bullriding it was 2009 Year-End
Junior Bullriding Champion, John Young, winning the first event with a 76
score for $200. As always the presentation of the bullriding by the
Extreme Team led by Todd Crase and Ryan Skillett was outstanding from the
opening to the final ride. The tour has a reputation for providing
great rides along with good family entertainment and this was very evident
with the humor of Allan Dessel, funnyman for the night. In the
spirit of family entertainment Allan kept everyone laughing and not one
joke that could not be said to a young child came out of his mouth!
Words can not give his "dance evolution" act enough
credit. It was excellent and extremely fun to watch. The
Extreme Bullriding royalty: Abby McDonald, Extreme Bullriding Tour
Princess; Hannah Hilsabeck, Miss Extreme; and Rachel Burton. Miss NFPB,
once again did the 50/50 drawing for the benefit of the Susan G. Komen
Foundation and are well on their way to their goal of $5000 for the
year. They raised a remarkable $5209 in 2009 with the help of the
fans. Mark Keaton and Aces High
entertained at the dance following the bull riding. It was a great
holiday celebration of both a new year and a new tour.
