Nashville, TN -- Despite the downpour Wednesday afternoon, The Oak Ridge Boys brought a little sunshine to Music Row and to the entire staff of their booking agency, William Morris Endeavor. The group hosted a luncheon for WME agents and assistants to show their gratitude for the agency’s hard work in booking The Oak Ridge Boys on over 150 dates this year!
After lunch, and before the Oaks took the stage to sing their next, breakout single, ‘Mama’s Table,’ written by Jamey Johnson and released on The Boys Are Back CD (Spring Hill Music, May 2009), WME agent Paul Moore introduced the group by sharing fun facts.
Moore said, “My favorite quote about the Oaks came from Jamey Johnson, who said, ‘The first time I heard the Oak Ridge Boys singing Mama’s Table,’ which he wrote ‘I knew I didn’t have anything else to prove. These guys are living legends, and they just cut my song. William Lee even threw in a free beard seminar!’”
After the introduction, The Oak Ridge Boys busted out a thunderous cover of the White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, thrilling their guests, as well as many folks from the public who happened into the venue at Dan McGuinness on Nashville’s famed Music Row.
Lead singer, Duane Allen thanked the WME staffers on behalf of group, “We want to say ‘Thank You, William Morris Endeavor.’ Our date book for 2009 has been full for a while. Thank you for all you do for The Oak Ridge Boys every single year.”
With quick wit, Joe Bonsall added, “There are still a few open dates left in 2010!”
The Oak Ridge Boys’ kind gesture and performance were well received by WME staffers. In closing, everyonejoined the Oaks in singing their signature, undeniable, smash hit ‘Elvira.’
“These guys are a class act! And so is their manager, Jim Halsey, who gave each member of the WME staff a pair of Blublocker Sunglasses on their way out,” said Quinn O'Sullivan, owner of Dan McGuinness Irish Pub.
Those in attendance included Oak Ridge Boys team, Jon Mir, Kathy Harris, Erma Smith, Karin Warf, Darrick Kinslow, Celeste Winstead from Spring Hill Music, Chris Allums from Quarterback Records, and Sherman Halsey from The Halsey Company. |
