Country Music Reviews

Wannabes and Never Will Be's

Gordon MoteIf I'm right, and Country music is dying, then the hope has to be that what it leaves behind grows into a newer stronger version of the genre.

Nope: I'm clutching at straws.  After hours of listening to the very best Nashville has to offer, I'm left with these wannabes and hopefuls.

                      Wannabes

Gordon Mote: Wake Up Dancin'
(Spring Hill Music Group)
At last a song with words that mean something, sung with feeling and with a tune too! (Sure this is from Nashville??) I know nothing about this guy, but this is a cracking song and deserves huge airplay.

Melissa Lawson: What If It All Goes Right (Warner Bros. Nashville)
This might have the legs and the quality to give this talented singer - who won Nashville Star 2008 - a chance. I hate the song, but it is at least almost Country music.

                                                               Never Will Be's

Joey and RoryJoey and Rory: Cheater, Cheater

(Vanguard/Sugar Hill/Nine North)
Oh man: it's appalling. Both can sing, and we know from his record that Rory Feek can write great Country songs. But this is taking the pistachios!!! Absolute rubbish, a pastiche of Country music.

What do YOU think?? Tell us here!
