Shawna Russell : Goddess

I know a little about copyright, but not enough to know whether Stevie Nicks would have grounds to sue Shawna Russell for plagiarism.

The music for the verses of "Goddess" is based very closely on "Dreams", the huge hit Nicks wrote for Fleetwood Mac's record breaking "Rumours" album in 1977.

I've heard many songs that "sound like" one another,  but I played these two alongside one another in the studio, and I'd say this might be too close for comfort so far as Nicks' legal team's concerned. Or maybe, she'll be flattered!

Both songs are in the same key; when the vocals start on both songs, they follow what sounds like exactly the same melody for several lines; the chord sequence over those lines sounds identical. The split comes when the newer song reaches the chorus. Russell's vocals even sound like Nicks'.

This song - which I'm told was "written" by Shawna Russell, Keith Russell and Tim Russell -is actually a pop song (another major similarity with the Fleetwood Mac song) and has no place in the Country charts.

My View: Nashpop goes completely bonkers!
