It is a shameful and sad truth that Becky Schlegel's new single, "Bound For Tennessee" is unlikely to get anywhere close to the Billboard Country top 20.
It fails on almost every criteria used by "Country radio" to choose what makes it and what doesn't.
First, and most important, this is a real Country song with words about feelings and places and people. It's way "too Country" as George Jones would say.
Lyrics about leaving a depressingly small town, beautiful vocals sometimes reminiscent of Alison Krauss, piano rolling in the background, pedal steel edging in and out of the mix - SUPERB!
The GOOD NEWS is that this song is likely to run right to the top of the Roots Music Country AND Folk charts. To anyone who loves Country music, those charts matter so much more these days than Billboard's cash-tainted charts.
My View: Can't wait to hear the rest of the album!!!
