Mark Chesnutt, Keith Urban, Collin Raye and The Carter Twins
Mark Chesnutt : She Never Got Me Over You.
My PICK OF THE WEEK
Over the years, Mark Chesnutt has remained one of Country Music's finest singers and he's NEVER sold out to Nashville's need for pop oriented crossover music.
And this, his new single is one of the finest Country songs of the year so far.
The lyrics have everything from the pathos and emotion through the play on words of the title.
But what makes it is a fiddle that's part of the song, a pedal steel that is more than just a token gesture, and Chesnutt's amazing vocals.
It should top the Country music charts. I fear "Country" radio will find it too ... well too Country.
Keith Urban : Kiss A Girl
My TRASH IT selection this week
From the moment the electric guitar starts cutting out of a single speaker you know this can only get worse.
It does. A SECOND guitar out of the other speaker on the next stanza.
It's corny pop music production, the song just churns around and around going nowhere and pleasing little.
Doubtless it will soar to the heights of chart success, doubtless others will applaud Urban's innovative music, his urbane wit and his down home charm.
They'll all wear suits, come from New York and be lining their pockets on the back if his success -- IN THE POP charts!

Collin Raye : Mid Life Chrysler
Ho ho ho! My sides are splitting at the humor of the title. Ho, ho, ho!
Actually, that's a downright lie. I apologize.
There's nothing funny about the sentiments of the song, in fact there's absolutely nothing fun or funny about the song at all.
It's written by three of Nashville's songwriting luminaries - Neil Thrasherly, Wendell Mobley and Tony Martin - but they've missed the mark by a Country mile.
And Raye - who has one of the finest voices in Country music, spends his time trying to sound like a rock & roll singer on uppers.
These two 18-year-olds can really sing. And like most siblings, their voices mesh seamlessly in harmonies.
And with good material, they could really be "the next big thing".
Whether this is the material is very questionable but I must stop being so cynical.
In the current climate where Nashville pumps out ANYTHING and calls it "COUNTRY MUSIC", this will be a major hit, and these guys are going to be around for many, many years.
That's the truth. I just don't like it!!!
