BIG BOB YOUNG : HARD WAY TO MAKE A DOLLAR:
(MY PICK OF THE WEEK)
Big Bob Young looks tough, sounds mean, but you know what: he's a softie inside.
So when he saw waitress Marie (from Heber Springs, Arkansas) struggling to cope with rowdy customers just to make a few dollars, he went all gooey inside.
Oh, like all great acts, he hides it well. The guitars roar rock 'n roll, the vocals are gruff and "Hard Way To Make a Dollar" rips along at way beyond 100 bpm.
But the sentiment, the thoughts, the idea behind the song are all about Big Bob Young's marshmallow heart.
And I DON'T say that as a criticism, but as fulsome praise. That's the ultimate singer's trick. Sell the song so folks will listen, let the words say what you want 'em to.
NICE WORK BOB!!! Can't wait to hear the album!!

RICHIE FIELDS - DEVIL IN THE MIRROR:
Richie Fields is NOT a newcomer - I realize as I listen to his latest single.
This is the guy who gave us the brilliant "Man Enough To Cry". He's a top writer, incredible (NO EXAGGERATION) vocalist ... truly an "undiscovered" talent.
"Devil In The Mirror" is a superb song, lyrically brilliant.
But what I ENVY (YES - I'm turning green here) is Richie's vocal range.
I swear he sings his way through two-and-a-half octaves on this track, and that is ASTONISHING!!!!! Few classically trained Opera singers (male or female) can stretch to two octaves. It is the top singers who manage to extend their range further.
Nice work - this guy DESERVES a break!! Give him a listen.
