Bet you didn't know that CMT has started broadcasting soap opera's, but it HAS - a show called "Gone Country".
It has everything a fine soap should have:
There's Cowboy John, a Country star trying to boost his career and line his pockets with a high profile TV show;
There's Julio, the handsome son of a world famous Spanish opera singer who wants to follow Dad into the music business but can't quite make it!
There's intrigue too. Who is the mysterious record label executive who claims Julio's latest song is his "debut single". (Sorry to give the story away, but it turns out that Julio has history: he released two singles for major labels back in 1999.)
And why is the label claiming the song - "The Way I Want You" - is a Country song. (It turns out to be a very poor pop song which would struggle to make it into the charts in Lithuania!)
And the most amazing thing about this "soap opera"? It isn't a soap at all. It's a serious TV show made by CMT, starring John Rich and producing a winner called Julio Iglesias Jr singing a song called "The Way I Want You" which his label, Team Records/EMI Spain claim is a Country song!
If it weren't for the cynical nature of the marketing, the arrogance of the producers and the label, this would be laughable.
But ALL these people seem to believe that ripping off honest hard-working Country fans by making them believe this song is a Country song is acceptable.
It is not and the whole thing is despicable!
My View: Avoid the label, the TV station and the song!
