Country Music Singles Reviews

Bluefield .... the rest is rubbish!

Bluefield : Ready To Love You Now
My PICK OF THE WEEK!

Don't want to confuse you guys, but these reviews ALL appear in the reverse order to me writing them.

In other words, this is the last of this batch, yet you get to read it first.

I say that because through the first three I reached despair and heartache. WHERE - I was wondering is the real music, the true Country feel?

Well, folks, I'm saved: this week, it resides in this delightful little song.

Mainly because, while Rick Ferrell's song isn't that great, Jennifer Hicks vocals are magical, and the harmonies are absolutely brilliant.

So, if you don't want to know about this week's "Country" trash, stop reading now and go get a copy of THIS single!

Montgomery Gentry : There's One In Every Crowd

There was a time when it looked like Montgomery Gentry might challenge Brooks and Dunn's unjustified domination of the Country music duo's awards!!

But about a year ago, things all went pear-shaped. Don't know how or why, but these guys lost their direction.

They had been moving Country music forward, but suddenly, they sounded like a poor man's version of Brooks and Dunn.

And this is the peak of that cloning process. Right down to the bar-room chanting and crowd sound effects on the final chorus.

Maybe they should change the title. There's TWO in every crowd might fit better.

Justin Moore : Small Town USA

Got a new artist? Want to give him "Country" credibility? Then  get him a song about ...  a small backwoods town in the USA.

You know, that's what those reprehensible idiots in New York and LA, the guys who own, "run" and are WRECKING Country music think it's all about.

They are as bad as the bankers who wrecked the world's economy!!! So that's all right then.

Now, Justin Moore has a great voice, and this isn't a bad song and as far as it goes.

But when you get down to it, it's yet another "Country" song off the template driven factory production line where every song's the same and every singer's a potential money machine, not an artist!.

Where's the creativity? Where's the movement forward.  I despair!

Carrie Underwood : I Told You So

It's astonishing how a single line can be arranged and sung in a way that it wrecks a perfectly good song: but it can.

It should not surprise me that it happens on a Carrie Underwood single.

This song shows that this girl - mired in middle-of-the-road pop music while masquerading as a Country singer - CAN actually do Country.

That is until she reaches the chorus. Then the title line is delivered by her as though she's some Broadway musical star.

Shame. And since it's already at 22 in the charts after just a week on release, I'll bet it's odds on to hit top spot in the "Country" charts.
