Randy Travis' new single, "Faith In You" is a double sided coin. You'll have to flip it yourself to decide whether you like it or not.
On one side of the "coin" are the lyrics: brilliant, powerful, among the best I've heard in many, many years. These are Country lyrics at their best.
"I don't have faith in politics, but I do believe in the will of the people;
"I don't know much about big time religion but I believe in the cross on the steeple".
On the other side of my imaginary coin is the music. This is pure Hollywood: an orchestra sweeps majestically across the backing, the piano is the biggest grand you've ever heard and the guitar instrumental break is Bryan Adams power ballad.
The song just about edges into the plus side, for me, because of the thing that holds it together: Randy Travis' vocals. They are, as usual brilliant!
