MORE "Country" Music Singles Reviews

Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum and Bomshel

Rascal Flatts : Here Comes Goodbye
It fascinates me that there are people who can take REALLY good Country songs and turn them into run-of-the-mill pop songs.

But one group which excels at this trick is Rascal Flatts.

"Here Comes Goodbye" is the lead off single from their new album, due out in April. It will be number one!. The album will be number one.

But that says more about the marketing ability of Walt Disney's huge corporation than the music.

And the music? It sucks!

Lady Antebellum : I Run To You

These guys are meant to be the biggest "revolution" to hit Country music for many years.

They can REALLY sing! And the sentiments of their new single are satisfactory (no more).

But when the orchestra cuts in, when the power-ballad guitars hit, when the multi-tracked harmonies chime in, it's all lost in a mush designed to satisfy a pop audience.

That's a shame. These guys could be a "revolution" if only they'd get back to their roots!

Meantime, they'll make the top ten with this, and they'll follow Rascal Flatts up to the multi million seller list, and I won't be recommending that anyone buys their music.

Bomshel : Fight Like A Girl

These two can sing really well.  I know that because I've heard them do it on previous releases.

So what's gone wrong?? I worried within the first verse of "Fight Like A Girl" when the singing lessons showed through: the vibrato on the lead vocals wouldn't be out of place in an opera house.

Like the two other singles in this section, this is far from being Country music.

I hate it when you can tell that the writers had a "great idea" for a title and then made the lyrics work. But that's what you have right here!

The end result is a mess, a power ballad which is screamed rather than sung, shouted almost - and so overpowering that far from being musically pleasing, it actually hurts the ears!!

BIN IT - if only for the spelling mistake!
