Country Music Singles Reviews

Emily West and Tish Hinojosa - COUNTRY ladies!

Emily West : That Kind Of Happy
My pick of the week.

It's alive: She sings. It's Country music. Heck, these days, that's almost enough to make it my pic of the week it's such a rarity.

But Emily West has hit on something here.  Her vocals soar, they're classy.

The backing is loose in that brilliant Nashville way - you know, it's actually all as tight as can be, but it SOUNDS loose and on-the-fly.

The combination is breath taking.

I smiled. There hasn't been a lot of Country music making me do that lately, but this did. It made me smile!   WOW.

Tish Hinojosa : Our Little Planet

If you haven't heard any of this amazing lady's work yet, get to hear her now.

Her music has always been innovative, but here, she heads right back to the old dirt road and finds her Country roots.

It's a delightful song and worth three minutes of anyone's time.

Of course, the Tex-mex feel and the Spanish lyrics will mean it gets very little airtime on "mainstream" "Country" radio.

Shameful!

Stephen Cochran - Wal-Mart Flowers.

Nice idea.

I could stop there but I suppose I should say why I think it fails miserably.

It's one of those same old, same old tunes. It's delivered for radio, not for music.

No: can't think of antyhing else to say other than this guy HAS done better and CAN do better.

"That's Right!"
