What a wonderful name Mother. My daughter, LoriDee, sings a little song she made up. It goes something like this: “40 years ago Mom said I do and now she do for the needy, she do for the poor, she do for my dear old dad, she do for my sis and she do for my brother and she do for me. She said I do and she do!” Those might not be quite the exact words, but you get the point. As women we chase the right guy until he catches us and then we spend the rest of our lives living up to those two little words, “I do.”
If we’re lucky, out of those two little words life will give us children. Mothers get the joy of experiencing the first “kick”. God gives us a special time to bond with the new life before the rest of the world meets the newest member of God’s kingdom. We experience the delight as they grow. Yes, that was a real smile and he really is giggling! We are amazed the first time they roll over and call everyone we know when they crawl. Then the day comes when they can finally walk and soon we are chasing after them as they run everywhere! We can’t wait for them to say “Mommy” and can’t believe what they just told the world in show and tell at school. Before we know it they are walking across the stage getting their diplomas and off to college. That first kick seems so long ago and although the path as been filled with many mishaps the joys and pride of motherhood far outweigh the woes and in fact maybe the woes are what made both mother and child grow the strongest. Enjoy each moment for almost with what seems like the speed of light an adult stands where a toddler once did and they too are taking the long walk down the aisle to say “I do” and the circle of life begins again only this time you are “Grandma”.
God in his infinite wisdom created in all species on earth mothers and gave them the instinct to nurture and love and then He whispered quietly into their ear, “I do.”
