Rodeo Attitude would much rather be posting a story about Cody's bullriding than posting this letter from Regan McKellips. Cody has served on our Youth Board in his younger days and has always been a great supporter or Rodeo Attitude, the associations he is a member of and the sport. Cody always has a smile for everyone he meets and the type of person that defines the word friendship so lets all get behind him with prayers, cards and any other support you may be able to give Cody and his family.

Letter from McKellips Rodeo:

Dear Rodeo Family,

We are asking for you prayers for multi association member/bull rider, Cody Stephens, as he has been diagnosed with AML Leukemia. Cody is now at KU Medical Hospital in Kansas City, KS. He started his Chemo treatment on Thursday, April 23. This will be a 3 day and 7 day treatment cycle. After 10 days they will evaluate his blood cell growth progress. Currently the time frame for Cody's hospitalization is 30 days to cover chemo and recuperation of his immune system. Prognosis is hopeful with his young age and overall strength! This was caught very early since he had not been feeling well for about 3 weeks.

Cody is a student/rodeo team member at college in Coffeyville, KS. His mom, Toni, is with him at the hospital. Visitors are welcome as long as you have NO systems of illness. He will have no immune system thru his chemo so please be very diligent of your own health if you choose to visit him. His first name is Richard so if you call or ask for his room, 4102 on the 4th floor, you will need to know that. Also he can only have prepackaged foods, please no home baked goods even as wonderful as they are!

Cody does have a 50% insurance coverage right now. We will keep you updated with any benefits that are scheduled to help with the remaining balance of treatment and Toni's expenses with missing work.

Thank you all for your prayers and support in advance! Toni told the hospital that the rodeo family bond is very strong, they did not believe her! Let's show them how strong it is!!

Having lost my own dad when I was 7 to Leukemia in 1983 when it was not as treatable and chemo was experimental I feel very hopeful for Cody's treatment and recovery! Please keep Cody and his family in your prayers.

Thank you so much,

Chuck & Regan McKellips

The hospital mailing info is:

R. Cody Stephens, Rm 4102 c/o KU Medical Hospital 3901 Rainbow Blvd Kansas City, KS 66160 Hospital phone number 913-588-5000. Cindy Meyers of Rodeo Attitude spoke to Cody today and his spirits are very good but the idea of being in the hospital for 4 to 6 weeks is not something he is looking forward to.
