I wrote the article below on October 31st. I am happy to announce that many of the young people at the FFA National Convention did let Ms. Underwood know their true feelings. Now just a few days later we watched as Ms. Underwood was honored by the CMA with their coveted Horizon Award and the very prestigious "Female Vocalist of the Year" Award. The big controversy is about how Faith Hill supposedly acted upon hearing the winner. Faith, they should have got my response on film! Awards of this magnitude should not only consider the voice, the lyrics but also the stage presence and the fans. Telling an audience in cattle country you do not believe they should be raising cattle for food is not the way a good entertainer acts. PERIOD!
Beautiful voice. Yes. Beautiful lyrics. Yes. Good entertainer. NO! Right to her opinion. Yes. Right to mine. YOU BET! Should anyone involved in rodeo, agricultural or as far as that goes any industry that is trying to promote our Western Heritage hire her? In my humble opinion, and I repeat, in my humble opinion (you can't sue me for my opinion) NO! There are stations that won't play the Dixie Chick's music for what they consider their un-American comments. In my again humble opinion, her comments and actions go against one of the largest industries in America and I actually think they do more damage to the American economy than anything the Dixie Chicks said, and I won't support them either!
If you missed my article the first time around here it is again:
Look out, here comes the ol' Soapbox! Granted Carrie Underwood has won an enormous amount of awards this year. Granted she has some beautiful songs. BUT, and this is a huge BUT, she is not only a vegetarian she carries this to the ultimate level. She is a huge supporter of PETA and the Humane Society of the United States, an organization that has totally lost its way in recent years. Rodeo Attitude is the presenting sponsor of the Extreme Bullriding Tour which entertains at the Annual Comstock Windmill Festival which is one of our corporate sponsors. Last year Carrie Underwood threw a fit at the event and didn't even want to leave her bus because we were having a bull riding at the event on the same day she was singing. My deepest respect goes to Henry Noxell for not giving into this behavior. Now she is scheduled to perform a concert at the National FFA Convention. I think someone should have done some research on this one. How sad! I personally believe that the entire rodeo industry, especially committees that hire entertainment, should let Carrie Underwood and other celebrities that yes they have a right to their opinion but so DO WE!
