Cody Stephens will be honored On May 22, 2010 with the Cody Stephens Memorial Rodeo in Carthage, MO. For those who did not know this remarkable young man this seems like a simple statement, but for those of us who were blessed with meeting and knowing him it speaks volumes to the man he was. I first met Cody over the phone when he was still in school and full of excitement over his love of the sport of riding bulls. He had built his own website to help him proote his sport and his career in bullriding. Quite an aggressive action for a young boy. Before the phone conversation was over Cody had joined Rodeo Attitude as one of the founding members of our youth board and a friendship that would last until his untimely death on January 16th of this year had begun.

Over the years Cody never lost his zest for the sport. Whether on the phone or in person he was always one of Rodeo Attitude's greatest supporters. I never saw him once that I was not greeted with a hug and a loving greeting. I had the joy of watching him grow from a young boy into an outstanding young man. He always had a smile and an attitude to matach. Even on the day he called me to tell me he had leukemia he still had that smile in his voice. He had a Facebook page and was so thankful that his friends were keeping in touch with him and thanked me several times for telling people about it. That was Cody always upbeat and thanking others when it should have been us thanking him for all the joy his life had given us.

Cody lost his battle to leukemia but in doing so he left a legacy that no one who met him will ever forget. It is with the greatest honor that myself and everyone at Rodeo Attitude supports the Cody Stephens Memorial Rodeo and its goal of helping other families with leukemia patients and KU hospital.

R. Todd Crase, Rodeo Attitude co-founder, will be attending the event and has donated several items to the auction from the Extreme Bullriding Tour which Cody was a regular rider. He will be wearing a Rodeo Attitude shirt so look him up. I am sure he has lots of good stories about Cody.
