Curtis is the son of Doug and Cindy Stark and was very active in Iowa High School Rodeo. He had currently been competing in the Iowa Rodeo Cowboy Association (IRCA) and the United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC).(IRCA) and the United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC).
