R.A.S.M. Director receives 10 year award
On Wednesday morning, I set out once again to St. Joseph, Missouri for the NFPB Finals. Things were like they had been for years. Pens were being set, chute gates put up, banners being hung and bulls were being loaded in. It seemed to me as it always had been.
I headed to Terrible's Casino for the welcome banquet as usual; seeing faces that I had seen recently, meeting rookie contestants and catching up with those I had not seen in some time. It was wonderful. The banquet seemed as I had always remembered.
Rex Strayer, the Finals Director got up to do introductions, making his speech a bit different as he was talking about this being the 10th year in St. Joseph. Rex talked about his committee then asked for a moment to do something special. Rex talked about how his committee has always been there faithfully each year, but this year he wanted to recognize 6 people who had been with him since the beginning. I thought to myself, what a beautiful gesture. As Rex began announcing names, he asked people to step forward that he had a gift for them; a way to express appreciation.
Out of nowhere, he called my name. I was stunned. I sat there with Julie & Matthew Macey from Real-Living-Services and shook my head in disbelief. 10 years. I have been with the NFPB Finals for 10 years. Are you kidding me? Where has the time gone?
I proudly walked up, had my photo taken with Clint Jackson and accepted my Tres Rios belt buckle.
I would like to personally thank Rex Strayer, Clint Jackson and Frank Walkowe for making me a part of their rodeo family for the last 10 years. It has been a pleasure. |
