A
lot of people say cowboys do not
have hearts. Now we all know that is
very untrue.Recently I have talked to
a young cowboy who proves that
cowboys DO have the
“Biggest” hearts.His name is Marshall
Perkins.
Marshall
is fortunate enough to be
blessed with a friendship with
the Young family. Here is the Young’s
story:
Since
the beginning of 2006 The
Young’s have experienced a
series of unfortunate tragedies
that has touched the life of
Marshall
and the lives of others. In May,25 year old Ravyn
Young died of a sudden brain
aneurism.Ravyn was a loving wife
and mother, leaving behind her
husband Richard and 2 year old
son Gunnar.Richard served in the
military and is now raising his
adorable son.Now to continue with the
tragedies this family has faced,
this past March Richard was
diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease.Hodgkins Disease is a
rare cancer diagnosed in about
7,100 adults each year in the
U.S.Richard, 26, is now
undergoing costly treatments.
The
Young family was actively
involved in different aspects in
the sport of rodeo. And that is where
Marshall Perkins comes into this
story.
I
was sitting at my desk trying to
arrange my August bull riding
schedule, when I came across a
benefit bullriding in
Oklahoma
for a 2 year old boy named,
Gunnar.So I read the small
article about what happened and
what was going to happen. After I finished reading,
I was so touched that I
immediately got on the phone
with
Marshall
to find out more information. In talking with
Marshall
I learned about the family and
decided to step in and help out
in some way.And my way was to write
this story and pass it along, to
maybe touch someone else as much
as it did me.
So
Marshall
has decided to put on a benefit
bull riding called Hookin’ 4
Help. This event will be held
August 19th in
Oologah
,
Oklahoma
.All monies that are
raised between now and the bull
riding will be put into a
college fund to help Gunnar have
a successful future.There will be a silent
auction, along with donations.With
Marshall
’s permission, I have set up a
few fund raisers in my area to
help donate to this wonderful
cause.
Marshall
is accepting donations to help
put this event together. If anyone is interested
in helping, please contact
Marshall
at 918-237-3020 or send your
donations toHookin’ 4 Help Benefit
at Lakeside Bank in
Oologah
,
Oklahoma
.This event is sanctioned
by the National Federation of
Professional Bullriders.
I
would like to thank Cindy and
the Rodeo Attitude family for
allowing me to post this on the
website and anyone else who
donates anything to help Gunnar
have the best that life has to
offer him.I would like to also
extend a HUGE thank you to
Marshall Perkins for letting me
be involved in such a wonderful
cause.
