Obituary

Reuben F. Detweiler (33) was killed on Tuesday, November 30th in a car accident near Gallatin, Missouri. He was on his way home from work when he lost control of his car on ice on a bridge.   (News article)

His funeral was on December 4th at the Jamesport High School, Jamesport, Missouri.  The respect the bull riding industry held  for Reuben was evident as the cowboys of the NFPB and the BOA said their final goodbyes to a great friend who will never be forgotten.   After the services there was a dinner served at the  Robert Kimberling Memorial Gymnasium a part of the Jamesport High School.  Those who served this meal deserve not only our thanks but our praise for a delicious meal.  We all headed for home fed and with a better understanding of where Reuben got his spirit of love and understanding.

Reuben was born October 31, 1971, to Freeman and Emma (Gingerich) Detweiler at Trenton, Missouri.  He was a lifelong resident of the Jamesport area.  Reuben worked for DJK Construction for 5 years.  He was an avid rodeo fan and could be found at rodeo's across the country.  He was a member of the Bullriders of America.  He qualified for their finals and finished the 2004 season in 20th place.  He was also a member of the  National Federation of Professional Bullrider and was currently in 23rd place and would have been competing in their finals in March.  He was also their Central Regional Contestant Director.  Reuben was also standing in 26th place for the year in the Extreme Bullriding Tour.

Reuben was known for his ability to train horses.  He was often referred to as the "local horse whisperer" and will be remembered for his kind and gentle way.

Reuben's daughter Amanda was the pride and joy of his life.  Besides his daughter Reuben was survived by his parents, Amanda's mother, Katherine Gingerich, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Reuben was a great friend and will be missed by family and friends alike.

Trust for Amanda

Reuben's daughter Amanda Rose Detweiler is just one year old.  Reuben gave so much of himself to all of us and now it is our turn to give back to him.  Please help Amanda by sending donations to the trust fund that has been set up for her at:  Home Exchange Bank, 220 S. Broadway Street, Jamesport, Missouri 64648.  The bank's phone number is: 660-684-6114.  You might not have known him but if you are thinking about giving a gift at Christmas to a needing family, this little girl would certainly appreciate your help.  I can not say enough about the wonderful person her daddy was.  Please help us give her a brighter future.

Special request:  Jacque Finke has graciously offered to put together a memory book for Amanda.  Please send non-returnable pictures or e mail copies of pictures to Jacque Finke.  If you have videos that you wish to copy and send to Jacque we will put them in the box for Amanda.  Thank you for your assistance in this project.
