Federal
Animal ID Program
The
following editorial was received
from Norman and Susie Stretton, Nightsong Farms,
Dry Creek, La. The
Stretton's are involved in the
goat and sheep industry but feel
this issue is equally important to
the rodeo, cattle and equine
industries.
"I am writing to encourage you to oppose the USDA National Animal ID System. This program can be seen at
http://animalid.aphis.usda.gov/nais It will require the reporting of all premises where animals are held or live, RFID tagging or chipping of all animals and reporting every movement where animals
co-mingle or might co-mingle. This program was tried in Texas and the Texas farmers and animal owners got it delayed until May 4. They continue to fight it. Please take this seriously. It is not the same thing as scrapie registration. Your info will be in a federal database or private database accessible to federal agencies. You will be required to tag or chip with a chip anyone with a reader can stand outside your fence and get your information from. The readers suggested can read at several feet. you will be reporting every birth, death, sale, purchase, lease for breeding, rodeo, trail ride, ride off your property, trip to the vet, show, fair and 4-H event to this national database. Please go to
http://www.nonais.org
and http://stopanimalid. org and
Louisianans_against_NAIS@yahoogroups.com for more
information, contacts and lists. We must stop this."
