Faith, country music find a common bond
God and religion have always been a part of country music. And the role may be getting bigger. I was amazed when three of the top awards of the recent Academy of Country Music went to songs with stirring messages of faith.

President Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi are going to
Graceland.
A private tour through the late rock 'n' roll legend's Memphis mansion on Friday wraps two days of consultations between the leaders. The visit has spanned military pomp, the tinkling of crystal at a black-tie dinner and two hours of discussions on Iraq, North Korea, U.S. beef exports and other weighty matters in the Oval Office.

Here's the Man behind the Streets of Bakersfield
Songwriter, Homer Joy
The Rock ‘n Role Model Interview: by Dr. Bruce L.
Thiessen,
aka Dr. BLT
Yes, Barry Manilow did write the songs, at least quite a few of them, but, like Buck Owens, there was at least one signature hit song that he didn’t write. For Barry it was (ironically enough) I Write the Songs. For Buck it was Streets of Bakersfield. Barry owed an ineffable debt to Bruce Johnston for writing I Write the Songs. Bucked owed an equal, if not greater debt to the man I was fortunate enough to find for this rare interview: Homer Joy.

41st
Annual Academy of Country Music Awards Show
The 41st Academy of Country Music
Awards were held Tuesday, May 23, 2006
at the MGM Grand (Las Vegas). Reba
McEntire did an outstanding job as
the host. This was the
eighth time the winner of 11 ACM
awards hosted the
event. Kenny Chesney took
home the big award of the night,
Entertainer of the Year.
Brooks and Dunn and Carrie
Underwood who will be performing
at the Comstock Windmill Festival
of which Rodeo Attitude is one of
the sponsors were also big
winners. Carrie Underwood
was deeply moved when her
performances of her song
"Jesus Tale the Wheel"
received a standing ovation by her
peers.
Although
the night was filled with memorable
performances the biggest moment
came with only one major award
left to be presented. The
tribute to the l
late Buck Owens. The
legendary performer had 21 #1
Country hits during his
remarkable career and was the
Academy of Country Music’s very
first Top Male Vocalist winner, in
1965. Buck was also
honored with the Academy’s most
respected honor, the Pioneer
Award, in 1988. The tribute not only
saluted Mr. Owens’ rich
catalogue of hit songs, but his
status as a true ambassador of
Country Music. The special
group put together for the tribute
included Brad
Paisley, Dwight Yoakam and ZZ
Top's Billy Gibbons, Buck's
son. Tom Brumley, one
of the Buckaroos and others.
When Buck's son, Buddy Allan Owens
joined the group and they ended
the night with "Streets of
Bakersfield". Having
heard the story of this song and
the lifelong friendship it started
between our Director of Cowboy
Ministries, Homer Joy, the songs
writer and Buck, I could not have
thought of a better ending to this
tribute and this remarkable
evening of country music than the
"Bakersfield sound".

CMT Music Awards
are in the books
The
fans have had their
chance to speak and
the biggest winner
of the night was
Carrie Underwood who
won the
Breakthrough Video
of the Year as well
as the Female Video
of the Year.
It has been a rough
time for Hank
Williams Jr. with
two of his daughters
seriously injured in
a car accident and
then the accusations
of a hotel employee
that landed him in
court last week, but
all of that was put
aside when the fans
honored him with the
prestigious Johnny
Cash Visionary
Award. An
important part of
the evening was the
tribute to the late
Buck Owens by Dwight
Yoakam. Dwight
said, "Buck Owens was the best friend that country music could have ever hoped for, especially in the early 1960s when country music had moved away from the traditional honky-tonk sounds of the '40s and '50s,"
He finished by
saying, "Buck wasn't always clearly understood, but he always meant what he said. Buck always kept his promises to me and the millions of country music fans who loved him. All of us will miss him dearly." CLICK

"Buck
Owens and I" by
Terrance Alan
Life
is full or irony and
this song and it's
release has to fall
in this
category.
Terrance Alan called
me prior to the
untimely death of
Buck Owens to
discuss his upcoming
projects. One
of which was his
desire to release a
song he had written
in 1995 that was
based on Buck Owens
song titles.
The song is now
being released with
a small
change. the
cover now says
"A Tribute to
Buck Owens" in
honor of the man who
influenced country
music. Following
is the official
press release:
The music industry has lost one of its all time greatest artists: Buck Owens. He was truly a legend. Independent artist Terrance Alan releases "Buck Owens & I" On Flaming Revelations BMI Records as a tribute to the Man.
Terrance Alan is no stranger to Owens' music and has been influenced by his songs in so many ways. Alan has written
"Buck Owens and
I" - a song about how he relates to Buck's lyrics and melodies as he endures the heartbreak of a relationship gone sour. The song is based on Buck's song titles as they relate to Alan's situation.
