Colby Watkins Injured

Update July 27th - Colby under went surgery to repair the torn artery that was causing the internal bleeding.  If all goes well she is expected to be released from ICU today if her blood pressure stabilizes.  She is still scheduled to be moved to a different hospital next week to have surgery on her leg.  The family appreciates all the prayers.  We will keep you posted.
Update July 26th - Colby is still in ICU.  They think they have located where she is bleeding internally and will be fixing that hopefully today.  She will be transferred to another hospital in Louisville to have an Orthopedic specialist repair her broken leg as soon as she is stable enough.

Colby Watkins Injured in car accident - Justin Crawford has notified us that Colby Watkins a 22 year old, barrel racer from Shelbyville, KY was severely injured near St. Louis , MO around 8:30 Saturday morning..  She was flown to a St. Louis hospital where she remained unconscious for over 8 hours.  She was then flown to University Hospital in Louisville , KY were she had surgery to remove fluid from her lungs.  She is currently in ICU and has four broken ribs and a severely broken leg which they will operate on possibly Wednesday or Thursday.  She is showing improvement and will hopefully be removed from ICU in the next day or so.  Many of you will recognize her from her barrel racing or may know her dad who is a pickup man for the PRCA and I was informed he was in Cheyenne when the accident occurred.

The accident occurred when a 17 year old driving a Cadillac Escalade cut in front of Colby, who was in a 2005 Dodge 1 ton pickup.  Both the driver and his passenger tested positive for drugs.  The driver escaped uninjured but his passenger died of his injuries.  Rodeo Attitude's Chad 2000 - Cowboys Against Drunk Drivers encourages cowboys to display the Chad 2000 stickers as a reminder to not drive while drinking (or under the influence of any drug!).  We also support the Cowboy Promise Program started by DeWayne Spaw to encourage young people to promise never to use drugs.  More cowboys and cowgirls are killed or injured traveling to and from events than are injured in the arena!

We will all pray for Colby's quick recovery that she will soon be back in the arena.
