When
changing a horse to a new complete feed it is
recommended that the change be done gradually to
ensure normal digestive system activity [breakdown and
absorption of feed nutrients]. Changing complete feed
too abruptly can lead to a horse having digestive
disorders or going off of feed altogether. |

|
|
It is
best to change feed over a 7 to 10 day period,
exchanging 1/4 of the old feed for the new every 2 to
3 days. See chart for example of feed exchange. |

Additional hints to aid in safe transition of feed:
Provide your horse with access to fresh, clean water.
Provide your horse with a good parasite control program.
Provide your horse with a good vaccination program.
Provide your horse with clean, healthy living conditions. |

These recommendations are to be used as a general guideline. Individual needs may vary depending on pre-existing health conditions, living conditions and stress levels. Consult your veterinarian if abnormal conditions or concerns exist. |
|
|
When adding a new top-dress to your horses feeding program, it is recommended to add 1/2 suggested ration for the first 2-3 days, then full suggested ration after that. |
