ok i never really thought i would have to bring this up on this forum, but i think i should. a cowboy has nothing to do with the way a person dresses, acts, or even rides a horse. a cowboy/cowgirl is a frame of mind. its in the heart. u can tell a cowboy/cowgirl just by being around a person. ive seen some ppl that dont even wear boots or a hat, and are as cowboy as they come. i know a guy thats a prime example. he looks nothing like a cowboy, hes an older gentleman who would almost pass off as a bum. i seen him around some horses and man hes a cowboy to the core. he just has a way with horses. he can take a horse that no one wants/ or needs and turns it in to a awesome working horse. now i know other people do that, but i used him as an example because i actually know this man and its just a good example of a true cowboy and has nothing to do with appearance or the way he acts. now this may really have nothing to do with this post but i saw some ppl saying stuff about what a real cowboy is and i wanted to point that out...

ya know that is pritty much what i said. i said people are stupid, they think that every yayhoo that wears a hat is a cowboy.

Some people say that the cowboy is a dieing breed, then some people just dont listen.

You are only human, flesh and bone, you bruise, you bleed, and sometimes you break. And while forces beyond your control impose new scars on top of old ones you know they will never harm what is on the inside. Mental Toughness, Courage, and a competitive drive that taunts nature 8 seconds at a time.

You can sit and talk about what you have done, or can do, but those words dont mean a thing until you get you butt out and proove it

I'm glad I started this topic after all. Interesting range of opinions. As for what makes a cowboy/cowgirl, I think we can all agree that it is all about skill and heart not clothes. As for the movie, I saw it and its worth watching, even though I got bored about half-way thru.
As for the anti-gay posts, I really respect your opinion but it makes me even prouder of my buddy Cole for stepping up facing the crap he's gonna get for being honest.
Thanks all!

I'm not really anti-gay, I mean to each there own. But I do agree with Cody, not every person that pulls on a hat is a cowboy. It's a way of life, in your hart. If you have it you have it. I hate it when a movie like this tries to tear apart the western people. Horseman, Horsewomen, Cowboy, or Cowgirl, it's in your hart. Just don't lose that. God Blesses everyone. I'm proud to live the "Cowboy" life and always will, NO body will ever take that away from me. God Bless

Actually I have some friends that are Bi and i'm not closed minded, if that's what they like then that's fine with me.
I was just saying that people now a days group the gays or lesbians as there own ethnicity, which is wrong.

I'm with Dustin on the cowboy/cowgirl deal... It's not what you wear, it's in your heart completely..

It is always good to see a good discussion going on here. I of course stick to my point that gay has nothing to do with rodeo not does gay have anything to do with cowboy/cowgirl. What do I think makes a cowboy/cowgirl?
Being a cowboy is not in your dress (but I love Western clothes). It is not in how you ride a horse (here is a shocker-I don't have one!). It is a part of your attitutude. It is a part of your heart. It is a part of what makes you YOU. A cowboy is a person who choses a certain lifestyle and follows it. He may love horses and never ride. He may love bull riding and never compete. He may love team roping and not know how to throw a lasso. The key word here is LOVE. He or she loves the lifesyle. Not everyone is lucky enough to live on a ranch or live the dream, but they do in their heart. To me that is what makes a cowboy-his heart!

There are about a hundred things I can say about postings in this forum, but I will only say two basic things. One is that in reading through all the posts here, it seems like everyone is very respectful of each other. Also, there are a few people here who posted some things in this forum topic that might not be the same view as a majority of the population where they live, and my respect goes out to them. God bless!

I ain't seen it.Most probably won't. Not because I'm a homophob, but because I'm of the opinion that Hollywierd hasn't made a good western since Tombstone.

Personally I care less what your orientation is, thats your look out.

As too the tie in between sheep herders and cowboys I'll say this. My Uncles and Grandad would work cattle in the gathers and then herded sheep to make ends meet in Depression. They were Drovers, Cowhands, Cowmen and Wranglers. But as Grandad put it you do what it takes to "Catch the Coon." Pushin Woolies didn't make them any less of a Cowboy, but it kept the family fed and a roof as it were over their heads when times were tight, and when it was hand to mouth. Maybe if he hadn't worked those woolies I wouldn't be here to ramble on.
