Hi Dr. Mark Lyons,

I believe we met at a trade show not too long ago. When we met, Dr. Pierce Lyons mentioned that I should be in touch with you when it comes to computer applications within Alltech.

I enjoyed the interview and I have some ideas that I would like to share with you. Over the years, I have tried to help people formulating feeds, get better information from various sources. It looks like there may be a lot of good that Alltech and I could provide to formulators since you have the information, and, I would be able to help you share that in an effecient manner.

If you could give me your e-mail and/or telephone, I would like to contact you directly. It would be my pleasure to come back to Alltech after my first visit and tour about 15 years ago.

Thanks

Absolutely disgusting. Shame on Loos for trying to put the blame for this on the cameraman and make excuses for what is, quite obviously, inexcusable. It is inexcusable that the calves were not given enough basic shelter to prevent frostbite in the first place. And death via hammering???

There is no way this guy didn't know exactly what was going on, and either permit or encourage it. He's just trying to look responsible now, because he's been caught redhanded. Needs to be in jail where he belongs, along with the 5 subhuman workers who tortured the calves to death.

Regarding educating doctors about the advantages of eating quality protein: It may take fellow doctors who are familiar with meat nutrition, for example, to help educate other doctors who are not. There are a lot of misinformed doctors out there.

Our family farm is located right next to a beef cattle farm of a recently retired family physician, who practiced in our area for years. What is so cool is that he doesn't just live on a beef cattle farm; he is a producer, too, and has been for many years! In a conversation we had recently, we discussed how to educate people about the advantages of eating beef, and he said that we need to be sure to tell them that if it is their cholesterol they are worried about, they need to eat lean cuts. This is what he used tell his patients! Those of you who have taken the Masters of Beef Advocacy program should know that there are 29 cuts of beef that meet USDA guidelines for being considered lean. We need to let people know this. Pork is also a great lean product, as is chicken and turkey. We certainly don't discriminate against meat products in our household! :o)

How about we recruit some of the PBR doctors that work around beef cattle/cowboys all of the time? I am sure our neighbor (the retired physician) isn't the only one out there that knows something about agriculture (meat production, to be specific). We need to find those country doctors and see if they would be willing to band together to help educate folks. A commercial would be really cool! I believe it could make a big a difference and offer some terrific credibility to the industry because of the "facts" that would be distributed to the public.

Trent
I think you have to realize that there is a trend out in the U.S. that we have to eat lean meat. I agree with Kristin that getting the lean meat into the home is the right thing to do. Once we get beef established in the home then we can educate the public that it is okay to have a cut of beef that has a little more marbling.
