Reynolds and Corey Davis are best friends and roommates at
Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College.
They’re also Prairie Circuit bull riding champions. Reynolds
entered the Dodge Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo as an
alternate, finishing the season 16th in the standings but
lacking sufficient rodeos to qualify for the finals. He left
with $1,819 and the buckle of aggregate winner. He rode
Beutler & Son Rodeo Co.’s Deuces Wild for 87 points to
win the second go-round, and because no cowboy rode two bulls,
he had the highest-scored ride of the weekend.
“That just felt like a lot of fun,” said Reynolds, 21.
“I set my goals
this season to come here.”
Pretty lofty goals for someone who began riding bulls in April 2002.
“I just decided to get on a bull, and God gave me the opportunity to do this,” Reynolds said.
Davis didn’t compete in the finals because of an injury, but the $11,004 he earned throughout the season held up the year-end title.
“I looked at this year to pay my dues in the PRCA,” said Davis, a permit holder who plans to try to win the Resistol Rookie of the Year race next season. “If I do good at Pocatello (Idaho for the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo), that’ll set me up for a lot of good things.”
