October, 2004 Rodeo
Attitude Story
In 1998
Jerry won the World Bullfighting Championship and the title World
Champion. At that time the event was sponsored by Wrangler in conjunction with the
PRCA. Jerry proved he didn't win the title on a fluke and he definitely
still had the touch when on March 27, 2004, in Fresno, California,
he became the first man to qualify for the new World Bullfighting Championship
(WBC) formed in conjunction with the Professional Bull Riders (PBR)
and the American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI). |
|
The new WBC was held on October 23rd
at the Orleans arena in Las Vegas The competition was held on a
format of man against man and not by top scores overall. This format was
chosen for the excitement it generates for the fans. Jerry did and
excellent job and got a nice score but was eliminated in the
first round. The level of expertise that was
represented by the contestants was extraordinary. |

Jerry was one of five
bullfighters, all who have at one time earned the title World
Champion, who participated
in two informational session with the fans. The fans learned more
about the sport of freestyle bullfighting and protective bullfighting. Rob Smets,
director of the WBC and PBR World Finals bullfighter; Frank Newsom
PBR World Finals alternate bullfighter; Chuck Kinney, WBC judge;
and Mike Horton, WBC judge were the other champion bullfighters
that took part in these sessions with the fans. Jerry might
have been eliminated in the first round but it was apparent the
fans didn't care. They still love him! |
