Wayne Gretzky signs on to Back Seat Buckers
The Great One has become the latest celebrity to join the Back Seat Buckers program
PUEBLO, Colo. – The Great One is the latest sports star to embrace Back Seat Buckers. Wayne Gretzky has now become a bucking bull stock contractor through the new turn-key ownership program developed by the PBR and ABBI.
Gretzky is no stranger to the PBR or the sport of bull riding. Western Canada has a rich rodeo history, and Edmonton was Gretzky’s home from 1979 to 1988 when he led the Oilers to five Stanley Cup victories. Gretzky has attended PBR events over the years and is a true friend to the sport.
“The action is furious and there’s always something special that happens to each and every rider,” Gretzky commented after a Built Ford Tough Series event. Now he is ready to see things from the bull’s point of view.
Gretzky will name the bull he drafts March 3 at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas, “T-Dog.” The name is somewhat of a mystery. There’s speculation that it may be a reference to Tim Tebow, whom he shares an agent with, or a nickname for a Gretzky family member.
The NHL legend owns or shares 61 NHL records. Besides being a Hall of Famer and the greatest hockey player of all time, he was named Athlete of the Year in 1983 by the Associated Press. In other words, Gretzky knows how to win and what it takes to become a champion. He’s also extremely competitive- which will make it interesting to see how things play out between Gretzky and his friend and fellow Back Seat Buckers member John Elway.
“It will be exciting to see what kind of strategy he uses for the bull draft,” shared ABBI Executive Director Kaycee Simpson. “This is the man who understands the game of hockey better than anyone else on the planet. He does his homework and I know there will be research, planning and work that goes into his bull selection.”
Back Seat Buckers offers true “no maintenance” bull ownership starting at just under $12,000. The inaugural season features half a million dollars in prize money, with the winning bull at the World Finals in Las Vegas taking home $250,000. Many celebrities are getting involved with Back Seat Buckers, but what makes it special is that it gives anyone a shot at owning a champion bull. Spots are still available to join these sports legends as a bucking bull owner.
Back Seat Buckers is a program of 100 elite Futurity bulls that will compete against each other this season for a total of half a million dollars in prize money. The Finals event winner will earn his owner $250,000. For more information visit americanbuckingbull.com or backseatbuckers.com.
